Witch hazel, scientifically known as Hamamelis virginiana, is a modest deciduous tree or shrub belonging to the Hamamelidaceae family. Its leaves are typically obovate-round, featuring a heart-shaped base and characteristically dense, felt-like hairs on their underside, with undulating margins. The potent essential oils derived from the bark of witch hazel are rich in beneficial compounds, including unique witch hazel tannins, gallic acid, various volatile oils, and certain bitter elements.
